With over 3 million streams on Spotify, we’ve been reading about Joe Garratt and his brand of sun-kissed, harmony-led Electronica, but today we finally get to hear all about his music and inspiration. We spoke to lead singer, writer and producer Joe about what his musical inspirations are and how the internet has impacted music.
Joe is based in Leeds but has been gigging up and down the country for so long now that it comes as second nature to him.

What inspires your music and your creative process?
All sorts really, mostly dreams, past-relationships (such a cliche) and fantasy situations, sometimes good situations, sometimes bad. A recurring theme in my writing lately has been the idea of getting away from and avoiding living a mundane, ordinary life. I’m bored, basically, haha!
How do you feel the internet has impacted the music industry?
Its impact has had good and bad effects. The digitization of everything music has fucked things like sales, money etc. for example how much artist’s make with the piss-poor amount we get paid per stream. Also, the idea of listening to an album from front to back is rare now with play listing and streaming algorithms etc. But also, it’s so easy and accessible to listen to music, distribute music and discover new music also by streaming and getting lost in the thousands of algorithms and playlists. With everything good comes something bad, I suppose.
How would you describe the music you create?
Synthy, Dancey, Dreamy pop with influences that range from 80’s disco, to future bass, to alternative music. I used to create a lot of Electronic Dance music that was super 2013, clean whereas now, I like to make more synth wave stuff.
After talking to Joe, you can clearly see how passionate he is about his music and his future endeavours, Joe’s socials are posted below… check him out.
