Our favourite flyers from music events in Leeds.

By Charles Reeve

Often spotted on lampposts throughout Hyde park and Headingly, handed out around the university campuses and sprawled across the walls of numerous students gaffs. Flyers from events showcasing the array of musical talent Leeds has to offer are arguably a staple of University life. With all sorts of designs and artwork gracing our presence we want to pay homage to a few of our favourites, and the Graphic designers who made them.

1. Uppercut Sound

Freakish Brainchild of Stanley Ricketts, Uppercut Sound is night of percussive dance music which frequents at Wharf Chambers monthly. This flyer from a night showcasing local legend Mark Turner and Leeds Soundsystem heavyweights Crispy Aromatic tops our list for the creative spin on using business cards to fill out the flyer. Not purely by just looking great but also giving us a giggle along the way.

2. Stretchy Dance Supply

Stretchy Dance Supply has become a staple within Leeds music culture, and rightly so. With too many big names to count gracing the decks at their parties, and ensuring that participation by all audience members is mandatory for the duration of the night. Stretchy Dance Supply is definitely a favourite of ours here at Leeds Creatives, and this flyer for a night featuring the resident DJ’s at Wharf Chambers is no different. The effective simplicity of the design which pays homage to Japanese pop culture is sure to catch your eye wherever it may be.

3. Brotherhood

Brotherhood is another amazing club night which is also flying the flag high for Leeds! Normally taking place at Wire, the night features DJ’s across an array of different sub genres of dance music. They make it onto our list for a beautifully designed flyer featuring DJ’s Kon, Lucy Locket and Tami. We love the this flyers colourful recreation of popular Leeds architecture, most notably the Broadcasting Tower, a standout feature of the Leeds skyline.
