Documenting the current situation that we are now in is a useful, somewhat therapeutic way to keep a personal account, record a piece of history and even exercise your creative talents. The pandemic of the coronavirus is something that has affected every single person in the world. There is not one person that this event does not hold relevance to. This is why it is important for us as individuals to keep a record of the situation we find ourselves in. We are living through an important piece of history, something that is unprecedented and unexpected. Thus, why it is imperative that all of us maintain an account or such; So that we can reflect and allow for reflection on what has transpired for years to follow.
The Higgins Bedford Museum is asking people to donate accounts, journals, etc. in an effort for the historical aspect of these current events to be preserved. The preservation of accounts of this time are something that can be universally adhered to. As a nation it is up to us, the society, to preserve the memories of the situation that we have found ourselves subjected to.
The coronavirus will surely be an event that will be conversed about generations from now, it is our duty as members of the current generation to keep the emotions and everything else intact, so that years and years from now there will be utmost clarity regarding the pandemic.
The therapeutic nature of keeping a diary or an account could be extremely beneficial for anyone. Being able to express the emotions that are brought forth by the circumstances that we find ourselves in could be absolutely effective in lifting the weight off of your shoulders.
This could most certainly be a way for people to work on their mental health at these times. As the isolation means that often we are going alone or without interaction for extended periods of time we can feel locked in or suppressed. Without a support system there we may not be able to express whatever kind of emotions that we are feeling. Keeping a record would allow for you to freely express yourself without concern, even if the record you keep is for you only.
The creative nature of writing also results in a somewhat honing of your creativity. It can be easy to lose touch with your creative tendencies within isolation. This small activity can prolong your creativity and project you into even more creativity. All the while, effecting your mental health in a very positive way.
So maybe next time you’re twiddling your thumbs, unsure of what to do, perhaps ponder on creating a log of how you are, what you are doing, how you feel. We are living through history, surely it is our jobs to make sure that this is documented.
